| How much time is required? |
| The amount of time is dependent on the level of the friendship. We ask the Americans to contact you, at least once each month by phone, email or in person. |

| Is there a fee to participate in the program? |
| No, the program is completely free. |

| How are the families assigned? |
| We take applications from the students. We try to match each student with Americans that are interested in your particular region or country. We also consider social/cultural norms so that the conversations can be more relaxed. The American families are also provided instruction on how to develop a friendship that crosses cultural borders. |

| When can I apply? |
| We accept application all year long. The majority of our placements are in August and January so that the family has the entire semester to develop the friendship. |

| If I become too busy in school, what should I do? |
| It is okay to express this to your family. Let the International Friends coordinators know if you desire to end the program. This way we can reassign the family. |

| How long do we have the student? |
| Many families keep their student throughout their term here. This is why we are always recruiting new families. We do ask that you keep in contact for two semesters, if at all possible. |
